Days in the saddle are long and immersive, often reaching remote grazing grounds alongside local herders, before evenings spent in yurts or simple camps under open skies. Along the way, experience rare moments of Kyrgyz culture, including time with traditional eagle hunters, offering a glimpse into a heritage now fading.

  • The Journey

    01 Arrival in Bishkek & the road south

    We meet you at Bishkek airport and head south across the country, leaving the cities

    behind for the high valleys of the Naryn region.

    02 Riding to the edge of the world

    On the stocky, incredibly strong Kyrgyz mountain horses we ride between remote villages,

    through sweeping valleys and over passes above 3,350 m, with snowy peaks on every side.

    Nights are spent in a cosy yurt camp run by a local family.

    03 The Transhumance

    DEPENDS ON WEATHER, SHEPHERDS & ANIMALS

    We join the shepherds as they move their sheep, horses and yaks to new pastures — riding

    with the herds, camping in tents along the way and sharing the rhythm of a life that has

    barely changed in centuries.

    04 Köl Suu

    Hidden at over 3,500 m and ringed by sheer rock walls, Köl Suu changes from year to year.

    After cold, wet years it fills with unreal turquoise water; after dry, warm years it empties,

    and we can ride for miles along the bed of the lake between its towering walls, sometimes

    finding the tracks of the bears and wolves that live in these mountains.

    05 Eagle hunters & mounted archery

    On our way back towards more populated areas we spend a day with the eagle hunters,

    guardians of the centuries-old art of raising and training golden eagles, and try the basics

    of mounted archery.

    06 Back to Bishkek

    We drive back to the capital, carrying with us the contrast between modern Kyrgyzstan

    and the nomadic world we have just lived in.
